About Stepney Hills Organic Farm
We purchased the farm in 1989 and grew hay and raised a few cattle and pigs while both working off the farm.
Our family garden got bigger and bigger until we were giving away a lot of produce. By 2006, we had both retired to work full time on the farm as market gardeners.
We chose to become certified organic to assure our customers that our produce is grown under Canada’s organic standards and is inspected by an independent certification officer each year. We pay for this service because we believe it is important to distinquish between those who say they grow organically and those who have taken the step to have their organic methods verified. We believe that healthy living soil is the basis for healthy, nutritious produce.
Genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) are not allowed in certified organic production. People who are concerned about GMO’s should look for certified organic food. We became certified with the North Okanagan Organic Association in 2003.
